This system is the primary defense against mold crash damage: a stuck sprue, an un-ejected part, a displaced core, or a foreign object between the mold halves will trigger Alarm 301 and immediately stop the closing movement before the mold faces contact at full clamping force.

Netstal ELIOS/ELION machines use a closed-loop hydraulic pressure transducer system for mold protection—the controller monitors the differential pressure across the clamp cylinder during the low-pressure close phase. The mold protection force limit is typically programmed at 20-50 kN (for a 1000 kN clamp machine), approximately 2-4% of maximum clamping force. If the measured force exceeds this limit, the hydraulic system instantly depressurizes and the moving platen reverses direction (mold open). Response time from force detection to platen reversal is under 50ms on Netstal machines.
